So, is SEO ongoing ?

Another comment I hear from clients is "I have heard that SEO is ongoing"

To clarify it, SEO is only ongoing until you have achieved what you set out to achieve.

Let's put it this way, say for instance you are a mortgage broker and you asked your SEO Company to achieve a first page Google position for the keyword "mortgage" practically impossible by the way as this keyword produces over 174 million competing websites, but let's just use this keyword as an example.

So, your SEO company sets about achieving this position for you. They optimise your website for "mortgage" carry out off site optimisation, link building, blogging, publishing articles etc. etc. Then finally after months and months and months of tweaking the onsite optimisation and carrying out off site optimisation your website finally appears first page on Google for the keyword "mortgage" hooray !

What do you think that your SEO company are going to do next ? answer: they are going to do absolutely NOTHING ! They dare not change anything or add anything and risk losing months and months and months of hard work are they ? Everything is as it should be for your website to appear first page on Google for the keyword "mortgage"

So the SEO for that keyword is complete, no more ongoing SEO.

So, the answer is, SEO is ongoing until you have achieved first page Google for that particular keyword. Then it's just a case of keeping an eye on things to ensure it remains.
